ATLANTA — FEMA announced more than $52 million in funding for 29 recovery and mitigation projects to help South Carolina communities recover from Hurricane Helene and other disasters.
This funding is part of more than $2 billion that FEMA announced for almost 1,500 projects nationwide.
FEMA is awarding more than $52 million for 28 Public Assistance projects to reimburse South Carolina for the costs of debris removal and critical infrastructure and public facility repair. Notable projects include:
- $35.4 million to Aiken Electric Cooperative, Inc. for emergency protective measures following Hurricane Helene.
- $6.1 million to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for debris removal and repairs to roads and bridges.
- $1.9 million to Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Inc. for disaster management costs.
- $1.4 million to the Metropolitan Sewer District for permanent repairs.
- $740,000 to Erskine College for interior and exterior building repair.
Today’s funding also includes a grant of almost $108,000 from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to Chabad of Charleston Center for Jewish Life for a generator and emergency power project.
