The last of six years worth of 2-cent gas tax increases goes into effect today.
The Friday increase brings the state's total gas tax from 26 cents up to now 28 cents per gallon.
This annual increase ends six years of two-cent gas tax increases that were part of the 2017 SC Infrastructure and Economic Development Reform Act, a 10-year plan that included the gas tax increases.
The increase has gone into effect each July since 2017, and the income from the tax increase has gone to funding motor transportation infrastructure across the state.
You can find further details on this gas tax increase here, on the South Carolina Department of Revenue website.
