
One person is dead and several others are injured after a building fire in the Low Country. The fire was reported around 3 AM Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Summerville.

Officials say, multiple people were trapped in the building when the fire was reported. Town officials in Summerville say, when fire crews arrived one building was engulfed by the fire and it was spreading to the next building over. More than 50 firefighters from Summerville, North Charleston and Dorchester County responded to the call and it took nearly three hours for them to get the blaze under control.
Officials confirmed, that one person died in the fire and 7 others were transported to the hospital with injuries. Of those 7, three were Summerville Police officers who responded to help the building's residents. Those officers were treated and have since been released.
Over 30 units were severely damaged, causing building tenants to be displaced. The American Red Cross is on scene to assist residents of the complex.
