A Pee Dee area woman now faces upgraded charges following the death of her boyfriend last year. Charges against Cassandra Jacqueline Escobar of Hartsville have been upgraded from involuntary manslaughter to murder. Her boyfriend ,18 year old Caleb James was shot and killed in May of 2021.
Initially, Escobar told police that James shot and killed himself. The Darlington County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide one month later. Escobar was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter but was indicted on a murder charge by the Darlington County Grand Jury Thursday.
