A juvenile humpback whale was discovered dead in North Myrtle Beach between March 17-22, 2025. Officials suspect it may have sustained trauma prior to its death.

The 29-foot male whale is currently under investigation by the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network in collaboration with the UNCW Marine Mammal Network Stranding Program.

Over the coming months, tests and sample analyses will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Click HERE to be directed to the LMMN Facebook page for more information.
