The head of a state agency is set to retire. South Carolina Department of Insurance Director Ray Farmer is set to retire at the end of the week, after 9 years in the position.
Governor McMaster made the announcement Tuesday saying " Under the leadership of Director Farmer, the South Carolina Department of Insurance has taken great strides in adapting to an ever changing marketplace."
Farmer was appointed in 2012 by then Governor Nikki Haley. In 2018, Governor McMaster asked him to stay in the position. Michael Wise, who has worked in the state department of Insurance since 2009 will take over as Acting Director. He will serve in that capacity until McMaster appoints a new Director and they confirmed by the State Senate.
