The shooting death of a teenage boy led to a vandalism incident at a Midlands convenience store. The Richland County Sheriff's Department responded to the Shell station on Parklane Road in Columbia, around 9:30 Monday night.
Upon arrival, deputies found that protests at the store led to windows being shattered and the store being looted. The owner of the store, 58 year old Rick Chow was arrested and charged Monday with murder after the shooting death of 14 year old, Cyrus Carmack-Belton.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says, Chow had suspected the teenager of shoplifting and shot him just a short distance from the store. The Sheriff's Department says the alleged shoplifting incident, did not happen.
Sheriff Lott says the vandalism incident is under investigation and those involved will be identified and prosecuted.
