Governor Henry McMaster at the end of last week joined the state House Speaker, Florence Mayor and South Carolina Department of Mental Health leaders for the announcement of a new joint investment in the state’s mental health initiatives.
The $100 million investment from the state to the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, alongside $5 million from the City of Florence, is set to create a new behavioral health facility in the Pee Dee region.
The first direct investment from a South Carolina municipality to a behavioral health facility is set to help create a hub that will include various behavioral health services, including triage, crisis stabilization, telehealth, outpatient and inpatient services.
In a press release, Governor McMaster said “This first-of-its-kind facility is an enormous step forward in addressing the current and future needs of South Carolina’s behavioral health system.”
SCDHHS Director Robby Kerr added that they “hope to develop a model of care from this innovative new facility that can be used in other regions of the state.”
