Governor Henry McMaster held a press conference at the State House in Columbia Monday morning addressing the current Covid 19 status in South Carolina.

McMaster said that with vacations over, football season on the horizon and children going back to school, now is a great time to get vaccinated. The Governor said the vaccine is free and convenient.

McMaster acknowledged that while the virus does pose a real threat, particularly the Delta variant, shutting down the state economy, closing schools and masking students is wrong and the state will not be doing that.

Reporters asked the Governor about municipal mask mandates for students in cities not using education funds to provide the masks. McMaster said the source of funding for the masks is irrelevant if their use is mandated in a state public school building and was clearly against the intent of the state legislature.
