A Lexington County man with a history of DUI convictions has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty following a crash that resulted in the death of a baby in 2023.
Court records show that 66 year old, Charles Wesley Varn crashed his pickup truck into the back of a Saturn SUV. 8 week old, Gabriel Arroyo was in the back of the SUV and was killed in the crash.
The Highway Patrol says Varn's blood alcohol level was at .019, more than two times the legal limit. Varn entered a guilty plea to fatal DUI.
Varn has 6 prior DUI convictions with the most recent coming in 2022. Varn has been sentenced to 25 years in the state prison system.
