An associate of a once powerful now embroiled attorney in the Low Country, is due in court Tuesday. 61 year old, Curtis Smith was arrested Friday on a charge filed by SLED. Smith was previously arrested for his alleged involvement with Alex Murdaugh in a murder for hire and insurance fraud scheme. (No Photo of Smith was provided)
Smith is already charged with Aggravated Assault, Assisted Suicide, Insurance Fraud, Conspiracy and a Weapons Violation in connection to the incident on Labor Day Weekend of last year. Smith has publicly denied involvement in the plot previously.
Smith says that when he arrived that day, he declined to take part in the plot. He also says, he then grabbed Murdaugh trying to disarm him and the gun went off and was later disposed of. Smith is set to appear in Richland County for a bond hearing Tuesday at Noon.
