Alex Murdaugh's attorneys are suing the detention center director over release of phone calls the disgraced lawyer made from jail.Murdaugh's lawsuit targets Shane Kitchens, interim director of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County. That's where he's being held on a seven million dollar bond his lawyers say he can't possibly make.

His lawsuit filed in federal court seeks to halt any further release of taped conversations of his jailhouse phone calls. Several were aired on FITNews dot com and the podcast, "Murdaugh Murders". Some newspapers, including the Columbia State, have also filed Freedom of Information requests for transcripts.

One of Murdaugh's legal team leaders, Attorney Jim Griffin, says the lawsuit aims to quote "protect Alex's rights to fair criminal proceedings and to avoid further exploitation of Alex and his family members." The State newspaper quotes Columbia media lawyer Jay Bender saying inmates know their telephone conversations are being recorded, adding "it ain't going to be private."
