The sexual abuse scandal surrounding Varsity Cheer has now expanded up to North Carolina.
New lawsuits have been filed after another victim came forward today regarding the ongoing Varsity Spirit Abuse Scandal.
The newest lawsuit claims a young athlete, who was a teenager at the time, was sexually abused by coaches at Raleigh and Kernersville Cheer Extreme gyms and a Varsity and USASF-approved choreographer.
Bakari Sellars, one of the attorneys representing the various victims, said in a statement that “At this point, we are seeing a pattern. These entities have every chance to protect their athletes from sexual predators but, until a family goes public and the information can no longer be shuffled to the side or into a file somewhere, they do nothing.”
The lawsuits states that the abuse was reported to Cheer Extreme Raleigh coaches by the victim but that nothing was done and police were not notified.
It continues that Cheer Extreme coaches and administrators were also present when the victims abusers were present and openly touching and caressing them.
