A South Carolina House subcommittee is scheduled to convene at 9 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2026, to discuss the possible impeachment of Fifth Circuit Solicitor Bryon Gipson.
WIS-TV reports the impeachment bill was filed prior to the start of the new legislative session, citing “serious misconduct in office.”
The grievances include an alleged betrayal of public trust after Gipson reduced the sentence of accused murderer Alexander Dickey by 16 years without notifying the victim’s family, along with what lawmakers describe as the mishandling of other cases.
In 2024, Logan Federico of North Carolina was murdered by Dickey while visiting friends in Columbia.
Lawmakers are also expected to consider a separate bill that would create a commission to review misconduct by circuit solicitors and advise the governor on potential discipline, including removal or forced retirement.
