A reality TV star and owner of a tourist attraction on South Carolina's coast has avoided prison time on criminal charges in Virginia. Bhagavan Antle better known as "Doc" Antle, owner of Myrtle Beach Safari and a cast member of the Tiger King Netflix series received a suspended sentence in court Tuesday.
Antle was found guilty in June on multiple counts of wildlife trafficking and conspiracy to traffick wildlife. Court records say, Antle illegally purchased lion cubs to be displayed at Myrtle Beach Safari. Antle has been sentenced to five years of probation and a $10,000 fine.
PETA Foundation Director Debbie Metzler released a statement following the ruling referring to Antle's Myrtle Beach Safari as a "sleazy roadside zoo".
While Antle avoided jail time in Virginia, he still faces federal charges for money laundering and wildlife trafficking, after being arrested in Horry County last year.
