South Carolina legislators are responding following the Supreme Court decision Friday morning against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.

Senator Tim Scott on twitter responded immediately after the decision’s release, saying the decision was a "victory for common sense" that "frees taxpayers from shouldering debt they never signed up for."

Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted later that the decision was a “necessary check on an out of control executive who clearly disregarded the law in order to achieve a political result.”

Congressman William Timmons, a member of the House Oversight Committee, retweeted the committee's response to the decision, saying "No President can act unilaterally to spend hundreds of billions of dollars without Congressional approval."

Representative Jeff Duncan commented on twitter following the decision, calling it "Another win for taxpayers". He continued by calling for backlash, saying "Congress should consider punitive sanctions for the Biden Administration given its callous attempt to enact this clearly unconstitutional initiative."

Fifth District Representative Ralph Norman took to twitter to voice his opinion on the ruling, saying, "You cannot 'cancel' student loans any more than you can cancel a car payment or credit card debt. That money has to come from somewhere."

Following this decision, federal student loans are set to begin accruing interest again starting September 1st, with repayments set to resume starting October 1st.
