A bit of relief on the wallet for moms and dads this weekend...
The sales tax holiday is this weekend in South Carolina, that's when taxes for school supplies goes on "vacation" and a variety of purchases are exempt from the 6% state sales tax. Tax free items, which can be purchased online or in-store, include school supplies, computers, backpacks and clothes. (See below for a full list of item and links.)
According to the South Carolina Dept. of Revenue, "shoppers have saved between $2 and $3 million during the Tax Free Weekend in past years.
The tax free weekend begins Friday, August 2, 2024 and runs through Sunday August 4, 2024.
The Sales Tax Holiday was created by the South Carolina Legislature in 2000. Tax-free items include computers, printers, diapers, earbuds and headphones, purses, printers, shoes, and certain bed and bath items. Eligible items can be new or used and are eligible regardless of price.
