State Attorney General gives legal opinion on alternate covid drugs

The South Carolina Attorney General's Office has issued a legal opinion on prescribing alternative drugs to treat covid. On Friday, Attorney General Alan Wilson said the doctors do have the authority to prescribe alternate medications such as Ivermectin and other drugs considered to be "off-label" to covid patients.

Wilson issued the opinion at the request of two elected state officials, Senator Shane Martin and Representative Bill Taylor. Wilson said " Our doctors, as well as their patients, need to know that doctors have the right to make important medical decisions, as long as they have the informed consent of their patients. In fighting covid, the doctor should be given the broadest possible leeway,”
