The South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking input from local churches and other faith-based organizations in helping to identify community health needs.

DPH has released a short survey it is asking faith leaders around the state to fill out. The stated goal of the survey is to better understand what faith-based organizations around the state need and how DPH can partner with them in order to meet those needs and improve overall health of South Carolinians.

DPH Interim Director Dr. Edward Simmer said in a press release that “There are thousands of faith-based groups in our state, and we believe they would welcome the chance to use their influence to improve the health of their members and communities.”

Dr. Simmer explained the survey is important because DPH doesn’t have the understanding of individual communities that many of these organizations do and that working together can help direct DPH’s resources to where they are most needed.
