Krystle Matthews is a Democrat who is set to run in 2022 for the U.S. Senate seat held by Tim Scott. Earlier this week, a fundraising email from the Matthews campaign came out and the email contained a racial slur made toward Scott.
The Post & Courier reports that Matthews claims she did not write or authorize the email. The email criticized Scott after police reform legislation fell apart.
The email referred to him as "Uncle Scott", a variation of the racial slur "Uncle Tom". That type of language has been used on multiple occasions previously by critics and detractors of Senator Scott.
