(Associated Press) - A South Carolina sheriff’s deputy is hospitalized and another man is dead after officials say the man opened fire on the deputy Sunday.
Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis says a deputy called to a home for a domestic disturbance found a garage on fire. The sheriff says that Leroy Quick Jr. began shooting at the unnamed deputy who was trying to put out the fire.
The deputy was wounded and returned fire. Quick was found wounded and unresponsive after other deputies arrived and was pronounced dead at a hospital. The deputy is hospitalized but is expected to recover. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting and fire.
