The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has released it's annual Crime in South Carolina report. SLED chief Mark Keel in a statement released Monday said although he was pleased to see a decrease in property crimes, he was extremely concerned about the increase in violent crimes in the state.

The report based on 2020 crime data shows the rate of murder in the state has risen over 22 per cent and aggravated assaults were up over 10 per cent last year. Over the past 5 years, murders have increased almost 53 per cent, which Keel said "should concern every citizen of our state." The data is compiled from sheriffs and police departments across the state.  A link to the report is below.
