South Carolina colleges receive federal grants

The US Department of Education announced $25 million dollars in grants across the nation Monday, including roughly $1.7 million between two South Carolina colleges.

The US Department of Education grants announced Monday are part of the Teacher Quality Partnership grantprogram, which is meant to help schools recruit, develop, and retain an effective teacher workforce.


Just under $25 million is being invested in 22 schools over the course of five years, including two schools from South Carolina.

The University of South Carolina was being granted roughly $1.15 million, while Columbia College will receive just just $590 thousand.

US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a press release said, "We recognize the value of supporting our nation's educators, and we have a responsibility to providing resources and opportunities that promote a diverse educator workforce.”
