Multiple South Carolina legislators responded following the historic indictment of former President Donald Trump.
5th District Representative Ralph Norman was the first to respond, calling the indictment a “witch hunt”, saying it “isn’t about justice or the rule of law. It’s about the optics of an indictment. That’s all they care about.”
Later that evening, Congressman William Timmons also released a statement on social media, saying “What happened today reeks of corrupt regimes in third-world dictatorships. There must be accountability for this injustice. The end of Alvin Bragg’s career will be just the beginning.”
Thursday night, Senator Lindsey Graham also commented on the indictment while on Fox’s Hannity.
“You’ve got a misdemeanor that’s been made a felony,” Graham said. “Nobody in the history of New York City has ever been prosecuted under this theory except for Donald J Trump. This is gonna destroy America. We’re gonna fight back at the ballot box. We’re not gonna give in. How does this end, Sean? Trump wins in court, and he wins the election.”
This marks the first time in US history that a current or former President has been criminally charged.
