The incident at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia is now under control after SLED was called in to respond. The incident happened around 9AM Tuesday morning at the department's Broad River Complex.
Executive Director Eden Hendrick says, the issue started at the Birchwood School building. A number of juvenile offenders assaulted a staff member. The group then were able to get hammers and other tools, they used them to damage property and vehicles on-site.
The injured staff member was taken to the hospital for treatment, there's been no update on their condition. SLED is currently investigating and has announced what led to the revolt.
