A massive investment in North Carolina’s water infrastructure to protect against future natural disasters.
An over $400 million investment announced from the US Environmental Protection Agency for the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
The investment comes as part of the 2025 Supplemental Appropriation for Hurricanes Helene and Milton and the Hawai’i Wildfires.
The funds are set to allow for improvements to drinking water treatment and water distribution, sourcing, storage and more.
Officials say they hope these improvements will help to protect key water infrastructure from future natural disasters and minimize the impact of past storms like Helene.
