
British singer, songwriter, actress, and ‘60s icon, Marianne Faithfull, has passed at the age of 78.

Announcing the news of Marianne Faithfull’s passing, “with deep sadness," a statement to the BBC reveals the singer “passed away peacefully in London,” on Tuesday, January 30, “in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.”
As of now, no cause of death has been given.
Born on December 29, 1946, Marianne had just celebrated her 78th birthday, sharing a series of throwback photos by Gered Mankowitz on her official Instagram channel.
After beginning her career as a folk singer, Faithfull was discovered by The Rolling Stones’ producer, Andrew Loog Oldham, and reached the top 10 in the U.K. in 1964 with her single “As Tears Go By,” co-written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
Throughout her storied career, Marianne had worked with the likes of David Bowie, Rupert Hine, Roger Waters, composer and arranger Angelo Badalamenti, The Chieftains, Metallica, Emmylou Harris, Blur, Beck, The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Jarvis Cocker, Dave Stewart, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jon Brion, Sly & Robbie, Patrick Wolf, Ed Harcourt, Mark Lanegan, Brian Eno, and many more, and was included in Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time ranked at number 173.
