"I've worked on this for years," Harris adds, "way back, actually when I was even D.A. for San Francisco," showing her continued commitment to working toward making a positive impact on people's lives in the mental health arena. "I started a whole group of folks, and worked with a group of folks, around the need to deal with detection and then treatment of trauma among children who are growing up in poverty."
"When we talk about the children of the community, they are a children of the community," Harris said back in May 2022 addressing this very topic. "And in that way, we should all feel a direct sense of responsibility for their wellbeing. When I was a young prosecutor many years ago, I saw firsthand how adverse childhood experiences can have a lasting effect on mental health. And for decades, I have fought to improve children’s health and wellbeing."
