As restaurants and bars around the world begin to reopen, many are establishing new guidelines to keep not only customers safe, but their staff as well. For one pub in the UK, they may have taken these new measures a little too far. The Star Inn in Cornwall has gone viral after installing an electric fence around the bar to keep customers at a safe distance from the staff.
When the UK pub first reopened, they were having issues with customers not socially distancing, according to landlord Johnny McFadden. “Before the fence, people were not following social-distancing and were doing as they pleased, but now people take heed to the guidance around social distancing,” said McFadden, who is also a farmer. While the fence is usually turned off, customers have been warned it can be turned on at any moment.
While it may not be the safest for customers, the pub wants to make sure everyone is taking the new guidelines seriously. Only a few have been electrocuted so far. Hopefully no one gets seriously hurt, but if anything it might just turn into an attraction thanks to the pubs new viral fame.
