Many businesses have been struggling over the last few months, but some industries are at risk of shutting down completely due to the coronavirus. One industry that was struggling before the pandemic even started was libraries. While many have turned away from renting physical copies of books, one library in Texas is hoping viral fame can get people interested in reading once again.

The Harris County Public Library in Houston got some unexpected attention recently, thanks to their new spokesperson; Curbside Larry. The library posted videos of Curbside Larry, offering up curbside pickup of books as if he was a used car salesman. Curbside Larry debuted for the Library in July, and has since become a viral sensation.

The character is played by library staffer John Schaffer, who wears a blue polo, aviators, and a gas station cowboy hat in the video. While the Barbara Bush Branch Library was offering curbside service before Curbside Larry was created, the videos have definitely brought new interest to the library. With many stuck at home, maybe Curbside Larry can help get people away from the television for a little bit.
