The video conferencing app Zoom has seen a surge in usage recently with many people working from home. However, some employees are already mastering way of getting out of work without being caught slacking off by Zoom’s attention tracking features. They have begun making looping videos in order to get out of sitting in on a conference call.

It began with high school students finding ways to avoid online classes while quarantined, and has since moved on to the work force. With Zoom’s attention tracking features, bosses are able to see if participants have navigated away from the active Zoom window for more than 30 seconds. Thanks to this feature, there are many videos online giving tutorials on how to use the Zoom background feature, or by creating a looping video, in order to make it appear they are working and paying attention to the conference call.

According to Matt, whose video testing the Zoom background feature went viral, the feature is “for people who aren't trying to get out of meetings so much as just feeling sort of lonely in isolation." Whether it’s for fun or to slack off, many employees are probably already planning their own looping Zoom video.
