Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse will reopen some of the theaters across Texas and other states that it closed last year because of COVID-19.

Movie theater chains across the country were forced to close locations or scale back their offerings because of the pandemic. Alamo Drafthouse filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization earlier this year. Many of its theaters that had reopened in September of 2020 have continued to operate.

In the Dallas area, the company will begin showing films at its location in The Cedars neighborhood in June, along with its location in the Lake Highlands neighborhood and in Richardson.

Three more north Texas locations in Denton, North Richland Hills and Las Colinas are scheduled to reopen in July. The company has not set exact dates.

Locations in New York and California will reopen in May, along with one location in Austin. A second Austin location will reopen in July, along with theaters in Laredo and Lubbock.

Alamo Drafthouse will require customers to wear masks and practice social distancing at those theaters as part of the company's efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19.
