KANSAS CITY (KMOX) - The heat we're experiencing across parts of the country is no joke.

To show just how serious it is, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City baked cookies inside a car.

The temperatures in KC were expected to reach 101 with a heat index of 105 – in St. Louis the heat index was predicted to hit 107 on Friday. That's apparently hot enough to bake a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies on your car's dashboard.

NWS began the experiment Friday afternoon and after just a few hours, the balls of cookie dough began to look pretty delicious. The car's internal temperature was up to 140 degrees.
