On Thursday, November 2, The Beatles will drop their final song, “Now and Then.” Originally written and sung by the late John Lennon on the piano at his home in 1977, it was later supplemented when the three surviving Beatles attempted it at the Anthology sessions. First by George Harrison, who played his guitar parts in 1995, and now Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have done their best to complete their friends’ work. Contributing from different decades, John, Paul, George, and Ringo come together playing the same tune, for one last time.
“Now and Then” will be the final track on the new edition of the Beatles’ legendary anthologies, 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, forever known as the Red and Blue Albums.
For those questioning the authenticity of whether “Now and Then” is in fact truly a Beatles track after all that AI talk a few months back, Ringo remained steadfast in how it was used to smooth and clean up a very old recording. “It was the closest we’ll ever come to having him back in the room.”
According to Rolling Stone, “‘Now and Then’ comes from the same home cassette, which Yoko Ono gave to Paul, George, and Ringo after John’s death. But it’s a stronger song — and thanks to the latest audio technology, it’s possible to hear far more of John’s voice and piano.”
While a 12-minute film written, directed by Oliver Murray, introducing the song will drop on November 1, at 3:30 pm ET, “Now And Then” will drop worldwide the next day on November 2 at 10AM ET. It will be followed by the Peter Jackson directed visual, dropping the day after that on Friday, November 3. And finally the updated editions of The Red and Blue Albums, which arrive on November 10.
