On their new offering, Automatic -- one of our most-anticipated albums of the year -- The Lumineers explore "the absurdities of the modern world," over 11 tracks, following up 2022’s Brightside while also marking 20 years of songwriting between core members Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz.
Last night, February 13, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the band heralded the release with a special late-night TV performance of “Same Old Song,” the album's first single.
Recorded in less than a month, Schultz says the project feels “very much of this era,” with Fraites adding there's “a palpable sense of connection between Wes and me” on the LP. “There’s lots of love on this record.” A description of the album reads: “While songs like the self-effacing ‘A**hole’ and the spartan, wry ‘Better Day’ reveal a risky intimacy and heretofore untapped undercurrent of humor, ‘Automatic’ remains what fans around the world have come to love about The Lumineers – shadowy themes wrapped in upbeat, infectious melodies, sky-high choruses destined to be sung by tens of thousands each night on the road.”
