The Padres lost their second game in a row in St. Louis, as Michael King labored through 4.1 innings. King struggled to put hitters away, striking out just one hitter while allowing 5 hits and 3 walks. Jordan Walker and Nathan Church each drove in runs in the 2nd inning to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. Ty France cut the deficit in half with an RBI-single back in the 5th, but St. Louis returned the favor with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th. Jackson Merrill then blasted an RBI-double in the top of the 6th, but that was the last chance for the Padres, who struggled against Cardinals starter Andrew Pallante. Craig Stammen declined to name a starter for Wednesday's series finale after the game, as the Padres will try to avoid being swept.
