The Padres' offense broke out of its recent funk, scoring 6 runs on 14 hits, while the Padres' opener strategy continued to pay dividends. After Bradgley Rodriguez pitched a scoreless first inning, Griffin Canning came in and bounced back from his past few poor outings in a big way, allowing just one earned run in 4.1 innings of work despite allowing some traffic on the basepaths, including three walks. Kyle Hart then entered the game, and recorded 5 outs without allowing a run, after pitching two scoreless frames on Monday. Jason Adam and Adrian Morejon closed out the final two innings with Mason Miller unavailable while he's tending to family matters away from the team. On the offensive side, Fernando Tatis Jr. continued his turnaround, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base, while Jackson Merrill showed signs of life, going 3-5 with a 2-run homer in the 9th inning and chipped in a stolen base as well. It was the type of all around performance the Padres really needed and can hopefully serve as a spring board entering their next series against the Rangers.
