The Padres got a much-needed victory on a day when they were short-handed in the bullpen and trailing throughout the game, but were able to come from behind and win the game and the series against the Reds. After jumping out to a 1-0 lead on Manny Machado's 1st inning RBI-double, Michael King gave up a 2-run home run to Spencer Steer in the 4th inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. then tied the game with an RBI-single in the 5th inning. Having only given up 2 runs on the home run to Steer through the first 6 innings and the team's high-leverage relievers unavailable due to recent usage, King returned to pitch the 7th inning having thrown just over 90 pitches. After retiring the first two hitters he faced, King allowed a solo shot to JJ Belday to give the Reds the lead again. Eugenio Suarez added a solo shot in the 8th inning to go up 4-2, making things look bleak for the Friars. But in the bottom of the 8th, Gavin Sheets drove in Jackson Merrill with an RBI-double to make it a 4-3 lead, and then Samad Taylor drove in pinch-runner Jase Bowen with a single back up the middle. After Wandy Peralta pitched a scoreless 9th inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a walk-off home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning to secure the series win on a getaway day as the Padres head east now to face the Baltimore Orioles.
