The Padres dropped Thursday's series finale to the Mets 6-1, losing the series on the road two games to one. The big blow in the game came in the 3rd inning with the Mets leading 2-1. With runners on the corners and one out, Mike Shildt was aggressive with his bullpen, pulling Randy Vasquez after just 48 pitches in favor of lefty Wandy Peralta to face left-handed Brandon Nimmo. Nimmo won the lefty on lefty battle, hitting a 3-run homer to put the Mets up 5-1, with the Padres' starter already out of the game. The Padres' offense really never threatened from there, as they only had two runners reach scoring position all day. The Padres dropped to 83-70 with the loss, diminishing their odds of winning the NL West with just 9 games remaining in the regular season. The Padres will head to Chicago for a 3-game series with the White Sox beginning on Friday.
