The Padres had one of their most unlikely wins of the season on Saturday night, overcoming a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Twins 7-5. Casey Mize allowed three home runs and departed the game in the 3rd inning after spraining his ankle walking down the dugout stairs in between the 2nd and 3rd innings, forcing the Padres to not only overcome a big deficit, but have their bullpen cover the bulk of the game. Despite being out-hit 9-1, the Padres didn't give up, and rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 6-5 lead. After Jake Cronenworth's 2-run double made it a 5-4 deficit, Manny Machado hit a grounder to shortstop, and Kaelen Culpepper eschewed the sure out at first base and tried to get the lead runner at third base, but threw the ball away, allowing Jake Cronenworth to scamper home to score the tying run. The next batter was the white hot Ty France, who looped a single down the right field line, allowing Manny Machado to come around and score to take the lead for the first time all game. Fernando Tatis Jr. added an insurance run in the 8th with an RBI-single, and Mason Miller slammed the door shut in the 9th inning to complete the comeback. The Padres now have an opportunity to sweep the Twins with a win on Sunday.
