When people think of Christmas, they probably think of families gathering to share a home-cooked meal and exchange presents.
However, some might be looking for a gift from fast food restaurants they frequent throughout the year -- and some of those businesses are actually stepping up with free items.

For example, customers who order at McDonald’s can get a free item off the Mariah Carey special menu with a $1 purchase through the restaurant app. This 12-day offer ends on Christmas Eve, when customers can get free cookies. On Thursday, customers could get a free sausage biscuit.
At Wendy’s free food offers began Dec. 20 extend past Christmas to Dec 26. Customers can get a free bowl of chili with any purchase through the restaurant app or a free order of “Baconator” fries with any purchase.
Through Dec. 31, anyone who joins the “Craver Nation” loyalty club through the White Castle app will get a free Original Slider Combo, no purchase necessary. This meal includes four sliders, French fries and a small drink.
BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, a restaurant chain with around 200 locations in the U.S., also has a free offer for those who join its Premier Rewards Plus Program. Customers who join will get a free Pizookie, a warm cookie, if they dine in the restaurant.
Free coffee will be available to the millions of people estimated to be hitting the road this holiday at Cumberland Farms, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill, Quik Stop, Kwik Stop, Minit Mart, Certified Oil, Fastrac Café, and Loaf N Jug – EG America stores often connected to gas stations. No purchase is required for cups of coffee on Christmas Day at these locations.
