The Cleveland Indians placed Carlos Carrasco on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a non-baseball medical condition.
Carrasco, 32, was diagnosed with a blood condition after feeling lethargic for weeks, according to the team. The right-hander will step away from baseball activities so doctors can gather as much information as possible.
The Indians said they expect Carrasco to return later this season.
Carrasco has a 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this year. The Indians signed him to a contract extension in the offseason. He was scheduled to start in Wednesday night's matchup with the Minnesota Twins.
Carrasco going down is a huge loss for the Indians, who are already without starters Mike Clevinger and Corey Kluber. The Indians, at 30-30, trail the Minnesota Twins by 10.5 games in the AL Central, and are one game out (behind two teams) of the AL's second wild-card spot.
