So much for news being quiet during baseball's coronavirus shutdown.
In a shocking announcement, the Mets announced pitcher Noah Syndergaard will undergo Tommy John surgery after he was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
The injury will sideline the 27-year-old right-hander for the entire 2020 season and very possibly into the 2021 season.

“Noah is an incredibly hard worker and a tremendous talent,” Van Wagenen said in a statement. “While this is unfortunate, we have no doubt that Noah will be able to return to full strength and continue to be an integral part of our Championship pursuits in the future.”
A one-time All-Star, Syndergaard started three Grapefruit League games this spring, pitching eight innings and going 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
Last season, he went 10-8 with a 4.28 ERA and 202 strikeouts.
