BOSTON (WEEI.com) -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who will turn 42 before the 2019 season starts, is entering the final year of his contract and will have a cap hit of $27 million.

On top of never playing a season on the last year of his deal, the thought was Brady would get a contract extension to spread out his salary cap hit, which would help the Patriots in relation to the cap.

This is why many thought an extension would take place before the start of free agency, but it's yet to occur.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked about it Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix and predictably didn't want to get into it.

"Yeah, I'm not going to get into any contract discussions," he said to reporters. "We never do that, so we're not going to start here now."

On Monday night, NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran reported all is quiet on the Brady contract front. The Kraft family has been on record since the Super Bowl saying they believed a deal would get done at some point this offseason.
