There are two types of people in this world: summer people and everyone else. And for the record, we are unapologetically summer people. But, even though summer is a time for beach days, hikes, and lots of ice-cream, it’s still important to keep your body as healthy as possible.
That's why our friends at Virtua Health put together a couple of easy workouts for different parts of your body to stay active this summer! Remember to always check in with your doctor before starting any new fitness routine.
There are tons of exercises that work on strengthening your core. From planks to crunches and mountain climbers to toe taps, there is something for everyone to do. If you are more advanced, you can try adding weights into some of these exercises. Take crunches for example, holding a weight (at your comfort level) while doing a crunch will help strengthen your core even more. Check out some examples here!
Some of the simplest arm workouts you can do are arm circles and good mornings! These can be done without any equipment at all. If you happen to have resistance bands, you can use them for bicep curls and tricep extensions. Check out some examples here!
One of the most effective leg workouts is squatting.
Squatting can be done either with weights or without. It’s important to make sure that your knees never go past your toes when you squat to ensure that there is no added pressure on them. Lunges are another exercise that work your legs and can be done with or without weights. And, of course going on a quick beach run is both effective and scenic. Check out some examples here!
Pull-ups and chin-ups help work out your back and build muscles. If you have access to workout equipment, one arm dumbbell rows and cable pull downs also are great exercises for your back. Strengthening back muscles is helpful for day to day activities. Check out some examples here!
