Tomorrow is February 29th . . . which we only get about once every four years.   Here are five things you should know about tomorrow's Leap Day . . .1.  We need Leap Days because it takes the Earth slightly longer than 365 days to circle the sun.  It actually takes 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds.  So without Leap Years, we'd be off by about six hours every year.  That doesn't sound like much, but over 100 years, it adds up to nearly 25 whole days.2.  It's not as simple as adding a day every four years.  For a particular year to be a Leap Year, three criteria must be met:  One, the year must be evenly divisible by 4.  Two, if the year can ALSO be evenly divided by 100, it's NOT a Leap Year.  And three, if the year is evenly divisible by 400 then it IS a Leap Year.  That's why the year 2000 WAS a Leap Year, since it's divisible by 400, but 2100 won't be.3.  In addition to Leap Days and Leap Years, there's also a Leap Second. The last one was added on December 31st, 2016, and the next one might be added on December 31st of this year.4.  Less than 0.07% of the world's population is estimated to have been born on February 29th . . . which means only about 205,000 people in the U.S. have a birthday tomorrow.  (Or about 4.8 million people in the whole world.)5.  People born during a Leap Year on February 29th are known as "leaplings," "leapers," or "leapsters" . . . and some famous leapers include: Jessie Usher is 28.  Will Smith's son Dylan Hiller in "Independence Day: Resurgence".Mark Foster from Foster the People is 36.Peter Scanavino is 40.  Dominick Carisi Jr. on "Law & Order: SVU".Ja Rule is 44Antonio Sabàto Jr. is 48.  Calvin Klein underwear model and "Melrose Place" stud.Tony Robbins is 60.  Motivational goon who hypnotized Jack Black in "Shallow Hal".Joss Ackland is 92.  Hans in "The Mighty Ducks" movies, the South African bad guy in "Lethal Weapon 2", AND the bad guy in "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey".Dennis Farina  (1944 - 2013)  "Law & Order""Reindeer Games", "Get Shorty" . . . and "Miami Vice".  Dennis Farina was once a Chicago policeman, ya know.Dinah Shore  (1916 - 1994)Pedro Zamora  (1972 - 1994)  MTV's "The Real World" San Francisco (1992).  Pedro was the young Hispanic man who was suffering from AIDS.Aileen Wuornos  (1956 - 2002)  America's first female serial killer . . . the prostitute Charlize Theron played in "Monster".  She was executed by lethal injection for murdering seven of her truck stop johns after falling in love with her lesbian lover.-------------Since we do have 29 days this month, because it's a Leap Year, and you're on salary . . . you'll still work an extra day for FREE this year. Here's why:-  Even though the 29th is on a weekend, it throws off the whole calendar.  And the additional day still results in one extra workday in 2020. -  In non-Leap Years, six out of seven days of the week happen 52 times, and one happens 53 timesLike last year, there were 53 Tuesdays.  But in a Leap Year, TWO days occur 53 times, and both of them happen to be workdays this time around.  We'll have 53 Wednesdays and 53 Thursdays.-  If you're hourly, it doesn't make a difference, but salaried workers are effectively working one extra day UNPAID.  So should they be compensated with some kind of bonusA new survey asked 10,000 people, and most of them said YES, they should.-  59% of us think people on salary should be paid for the additional day of work.  22% said they shouldn't, and 19% weren't sure.  Or here's an alternative...what about getting one extra vacation day?-------------Because it's Leap Day...  companies from grocery stores to hotels, restaurants to clothing stores are celebrating the extra 24 hours with deals and discountsGet Leap Day deals from . . . 7-Eleven
