It's time for Tom's "Nerd News," covering the most important news for your brain you may have missed over the last few days. Here's a quick rundown of this week in science . . .1.  Recently, the symbolic "Doomsday Clock" that represents how close we are to global catastrophe was moved up 20 seconds.  So it now sits at 100 seconds to midnight . . . the closest it's ever been in its 73-year history.2.  A new study found that when Mount Vesuvius erupted in Italy 2,000 years ago, the extreme heat turned people's brains into GLASS.3.  A study at Penn State found the average American family wastes 32% of the food they buy.  To the tune of $1,866 a year.4.  A team of scientists used a 3-D printer to recreate the vocal tract of a 3,000-year-old Egyptian mummy.  They released audio of what his voice would have sounded like.  But it's just a one-second clip of a vowel sound, so it's kind of underwhelming.
