"Jeopardy!" contestant Matt Amodio has opened up about the end of his 38-game winning streak on the perpetually popular TV game show.

The streak landed him second only to Ken Jennings on the all-time “Jeopardy!” list of most consecutive wins. Amodo’s $1.5 million winnings -- the third highest ever -- should salve that wound.

In an interview with CNN's John Berman, Amodio talked about how he felt when his hero, fellow contestant Jennings, gave him kudos for his performance on the show.

Berman noted that Jennings had to zip his lips during Amodio’s run, as the all-time champ now works for the show. But finally, he tweeted out an impressed “Whoa” and “What a run!”

“To impress your idol?” Amodio responded. “It doesn’t get any better than that. When I first saw that he had said that about me, I just fell to the floor, it meant so much to me.”

When asked his opinion on the heated “'Jeopardy!' Hostgate” debate, Amodio magnanimously responded, “I know that whatever they decide, that there are no bad choices.”

Considering that Amodio’s penultimate longest streak ever came amidst the ongoing hosting controversy, he said it didn’t affect him much.

“I was surprised at how little that affected me. Because there’s a whole crew, 'Jeopardy!' is not just one person, it’s a team. Sure one host was changing all the time, but there was so much that was the same, really my days felt pretty consistent throughout this whole thing.”

And what of that $1.5 million? “Boring answer, but I’m going to save it.”
