De'Von Achane Poised to Build on Historic Rookie Efficiency in 2024

Achane's Historic Efficiency and 2024 Season Outlook Amidst a Crowded Dolphins Backfield

De’Von Achane made NFL history in his rookie season, setting a new standard for efficiency among running backs. With an astounding 2.97 rushing yards over expected per attempt, per Next Gen Stats, Achane not only led all rookies but outpaced every other player in the league. For context, Christian McCaffrey was next on the list with 1.32 rushing yards over expected per attempt, highlighting the enormity of Achane's achievement.

Achane's efficiency wasn't just a flash in the pan. Across 103 rushing attempts, he accumulated 800 yards, translating to an incredible 7.8 yards per carry and a 3.04 efficiency rating—again, the best in the NFL. Impressively, 47.4% of his rush attempts went over expected, also the highest percentage in the league.

Heading into 2024, sportsbooks are assigning him regular season totals of 750.5 rushing yards, 7.5 touchdowns, which both seem way too low if he stays healthy.

I'd be more surprised if he doesn't rush for around 1,100 to 1,200 yards in a full season (barring injury).

It is important to note that the Dolphins’ backfield is looking crowded, though. Raheem Mostert, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season, and rookie Jaylen Wright could both see significant touches. Yet, all signs point to Achane as the RB1. If he stays healthy, the sky's the limit, and a 1,000-yard rushing season seems well within reach.

Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel spoke highly of Achane’s progress during the offseason, saying, “He’s expanded roles, expanded different ways that he can get the ball… He had a taste of success and, fortunately for us, he’s not satisfied with that.”

With his elite efficiency and growing role, De’Von Achane could be poised for a huge breakout season that cements his status as one of the NFL’s most dynamic running backs. Target him in player props, DFS and traditional fantasy games every week for huge upside.
