It was unclear who would be the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft shortly after college football season ended, but one player is separating himself from the rest of the pack. Former Miami Hurricanes signal caller Cam Ward is now the clear favorite to be selected with the No. 1. It could be difficult for the rest of the field to catch up as the draft nears.
Ward’s odds to hear his name called first are -295 at BetMGM and that figure is up from -145 last week. Tennessee’s clear need for a dynamic player under center has helped him climb. The Titans finished last season with the NFL’s 26th-ranked passing offense and were forced to choose between middling quarterbacks in Mason Rudolph and Will Levis throughout the season. Both players completed less than 65% of their passes.Calvin Ridley managed to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards despite that inconsistency, but the Titans’ aerial attack could use more of a playmaker.
Ward improved his completion percentage in three of his five collegiate seasons and connected on 67.2% of his passes en route to 4,313 passing yards and 39 passing touchdowns in his lone campaign with Miami. He ranked second in passing yards and led the nation passing touchdowns.
Many don’t view this year’s crop of quarterbacks as particularly impressive, but the Titans need a centerpiece to structure their rebuilding team around. That starts with a quarterback and neither of their current options have shown signs that they’re ready to evolve and lead Tennessee into the future. Whether Ward is a star in the making remains to be seen. The Titans need to address their biggest need right now, though.
